My wife and I moved to Mérida, Yucatán in September, 1999 from Denver, Colorado.
We now live just outside of Mérida near a little pueblito (village) named Dzitya.

This site is only here to entertain my fellow gringos who may be looking out their windows at falling snow and dreaming of warmer climes.

Day to Day Life
There are a lot of cultural differences between the U.S. and Mexico.
Learning Spanish
The biggest hurdle was to learn a new language on the fly!
We were seeking a simpler, quieter lifestyle away from a life we had grown tired of: traffic jams, professional ladder-climbing, chasing ever bigger piles of money, and spending it on the luxuries we thought we needed. In other words - the unending race to achieve and possess MORE. We wanted a tropical paradise with as many amenities as we could get. After all, we were born and raised in the United States. We were too accustomed to indoor plumbing, reliable telephones, and top-flight medical services.
We think we have found what we were looking for. We knew we would have to learn a new language but we found a lot of unexpected challenges as well. Along the way, we have encountered plenty of stimulating situations, mostly unpredictable, and frequently just plain funny. Life has become an ADVENTURE.
